Grand Central--->SoHo--->Shantel

 Thursday, 22 September 2011

Grand Central Terminal (GCT) — often incorrectly called Grand Central Station, or shortened to simply Grand Central — is a terminal station at 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan in New York CityUnited States. Built by and named for the New York Central Railroad in the heyday of American long-distance passenger trains, it is the largest train station in the world by number of platforms:[3] 44, with 67 tracks along them. They are on two levels, both below ground, with 41 tracks on the upper level and 26 on the lower, though the total number of tracks along platforms and in rail yards exceeds 100. When the Long Island Rail Road's new station opens in 2016 (see East Side Access), Grand Central will offer a total of 75 tracks and 48 platforms. The terminal covers an area of 48 acres (19 ha).

The one on the right wasn't keen to take a pic, not sure why?!

Standing in the middle of the station...hoping and waiting for a

SoHo is a neighborhood in Lower ManhattanNew York City, notable for being the location of many artists' lofts and art galleries, and also, more recently, for the wide variety of stores and shops ranging from trendy boutiques to outlets of upscale national and international chain stores. The area's history is an archetypal example of inner-city regeneration and gentrification, encompassing socio-economic, cultural, political and architectural developments.[2]
Almost all of SoHo is included in the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District, which was designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1973, extended in 2010, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1978.[3] It consists of 26 blocks and approximately 500 buildings,[4] many of them incorporating cast iron architectural elements. The side streets in the district are notable for being paved with Belgian blocks.
The name SoHo refers to the area being "SOuth of HOuston (Street)". This naming convention has become a model for the names of new and emerging neighborhoods in New York such as NoHo, for "NOrth of HOuston Street", TriBeCa ("TRIangle BElow CAnal Street"), Nolita ("NOrth of Little ITAly"), NoMad ("NOrth of MADison Square"), and DUMBO ("District Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass").

Waiting for Shantel, to meet up with us

The High Line is a 1-mile (1.6 km)[1] New York City park built on a 1.45-mile (2.33 km)[2] section of the former elevated freight railroad spur called the West Side Line, which runs along the lower west side of Manhattan; it has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway. The High Line Park currently runs from Gansevoort Street, one block below West 12th Street, in the Meatpacking District, up to 30th Street, through the neighborhood of Chelsea to the West Side Yard, near the Javits Convention Center.
The recycling of the railway into an urban park has spurred real estate development in the neighborhoods which lie along the line.

Decided to sit and rest at the Park as our feet were swollen from all the walking!

Shantel still rocking her heels, she's such a New Yorker

Don't even ask cause I don't remember lol

Busy rubbing my feet from all the walking.
I had "di corns at the end of my trip!!

You don't want to know what was being said while this pic was taken!!
Haaai!!

 Goofing around!!

And yes we are 27yrs old LOL

Shantel ready to show us the rest of the Highline in her heels!!
We put on our flats and journeyed on while she strutted in her 4" heels!!CRAZY!!

View from the Highline

The Highline is absolutely beautiful!!  The park was packed with couples, holding hands and enjoying the evening breeze and the view from the top.  This is definitely a place I will visit the next time I'm in NYC especially in the summer.

We then walked +- 30 blocks to Union Square to catch our subway.  Shantel had the same gusto she did 2hrs prior this and kept on asking if Tshego and I needed to rest lol!! We finally made it to Union Square and got on the subway back to our apartment. My feet were swollen and all I wanted was too soak them.

Besides the extensive walking, we had a great time with Shantel and would just like to thank her for being the person she is.  Shantel, you are an amazing person and I'm so glad our paths crossed.  We still need to plan our trip to Jamaica#jahman!!

Tshego and I got to the apartment, soaked our feet and passed out, don't think we even had dinner that evening.  Walking in the city "is nie pap en vleis nie" LOL

Stay Blessed xoxo
